I suppose my biggest influence is my mother. She let me listen to the radio and sing songs with her when I was a little girl, while she made pretty dresses. She was an amazing seamstress. My mother would create beautiful garments that made women feel happy and special. She made magic with her hands.
Her influence led me to study apparel design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and I went on to become a fashion designer in NYC for many years. Traveling the globe was part of the job. I met incredible people and had some incredible experiences all over the world. During my pregnancy with my second child, doctors' orders had me on bed rest, and after I had given birth, I never went back to work. I had two babies at home that needed special attention.
In my efforts to learn how to care for my two baby boys, I attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and thus became certified in holistic health coaching. We moved to Florida to slow down our pace, and there I coached and helped young moms like myself on how to feed their children optimally. Here is where I learned that what you put in your mind, is your first source of food.
So where does the jewelry come in? Well, this is where my misshapen story will try to take shape.
I wanted to create for women something that would inspire them, something positive that would feed their minds daily. My basic human need for personal growth drove me to combine my love affair with fashion, my appreciation for all cultures and faiths, my love for uplifting words and books and quotes and poems, and my passion to help & inspire others. One Life Jewelry was born from these desires. And while I don't need to bore you with the ten thousand hours it took me to get here, hammering and filing and cutting and stamping and shaping tiny pieces of gold and silver, I am tickled with delight that my two little boys watch their mommy make magic with her hands. And we sing.
